Yazmin Islam is a graduate of the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto, Canada, having specialized in Marketing and Management. She has also studied at the European Business School in Oestrich-Winkel, Germany and has completed a Certificate in Public Relations at Ryerson University. After her studies, Yazmin pursued a career in Publishing, working in the Toronto office of John Wiley and Sons Canada. After a few years at Wiley, she moved on to work at the head office of ZoomerMedia Inc, a Canadian media company that owns various television channels, radio stations and the nationally distributed Zoomer Magazine. While at ZoomerMedia, she worked in advertising operations, collaborating with different departments to facilitate the selling of ad space across the various media channels. After her time at ZoomerMedia, Yazmin decided to take a career break and spend fifteen months travelling throughout South America, Africa, Asia and Australia. She visited 24 countries during this trip, with a focus on exploring and learning about the unique history and culture of each country. After completing her trip around the world, Yazmin was offered a Marketing position with the Australian office of John Wiley and Sons. Yazmin re-located from Toronto to Melbourne in November 2015 and is still currently working for Wiley Australia. In her role, she manages the conferences and events as well as product marketing for the Higher Education and Schools (Jacaranda) divisions. An avid supporter of the local arts community in Toronto and now Melbourne, Yazmin has always had a strong interest in theatre and film. While living in Toronto, she was regularly involved in third-party marketing around the Toronto International Film Festival. Keen to support the local and international film community, Yazmin is always looking for new projects and streams to support the promotion of independent films to a larger audience.
